Methodology

How these figures are calculated

Insurance: Real-time estimates via Quotezone's insurance estimator API, using the user's date of birth, postcode, occupation, no claims bonus and voluntary excess where provided. Indicative figures use neutral defaults (age 35, Manager, 3 years NCB, £250 excess).

Fuel: Calculated from DVSA MOT odometer data to derive annual mileage, multiplied by a pence-per-mile figure based on the vehicle's fuel type and April 2026 UK pump prices (diesel ~£2.00/litre, petrol ~162p/litre).

Depreciation: Estimated from the vehicle's current market value (derived from make, age, and community average transaction data) using make-specific annual depreciation rates. Vehicles with original list prices over £40,000 use adjusted rates reflecting their value retention profile.

Road tax (VED): £200 standard rate (April 2026 UK rates). Vehicles with an original list price over £40,000 incur the Expensive Car Supplement (+£440) for years 2–5, reducing to £200 from year 6 onwards.

Servicing: Estimated annual cost based on vehicle value bracket as a proxy for complexity. EVs estimated at 40% lower than equivalent ICE vehicles.
